Tips for Termite Prevention:

  • Routinely inspect the foundation of a home for signs of mud tubes (used by termites to reach a food source), uneven or bubbling paint and wood that sounds hollow when tapped.

  • Monitor all exterior areas of wood including, windows, door frames and skirting boards for any noticeable changes.

  • Maintain an 18-inch gap between soil and any wood portions of your home.

  • Consider scheduling a professional inspection annually. Wood-boring insect damage is not covered by homeowners' insurance policies.

  • Store firewood at least 20 feet away from the house.

  • Eliminate or reduce moisture in and around the home which termites need to thrive.

  • Repair leaking faucets, water pipes and exterior AC units.

  • Repair fascia, soffits and rotted roof shingles.

  • Replace weather stripping and loose mortar around basement foundation and windows.

  • Divert water away from the house through properly functioning downspouts, gutters and splash blocks.

  • Coat attic framing using HALO Termite and Pest Control's GUARDIAN.

HALO Termite and Pest Control offers termite inspection and control services throughout Orange and San Diego counties.

DRYWOOD TERMITES

Drywood Termites live in colonies of 2,000 to 3,000 members. Once the colony has reached a size that can no longer be sustained by the current piece of lumber they will await the proper time and climate to swarm. This will usually happen between August and October every year. Drywood termites are different than subterranean termites in that they actually live inside the wood.

Drywood termite activity is discovered during our inspection when we find "droppings" or activity. Droppings are the pellet shaped feces that used to be your home.

We believe that most drywood termite colonies can be eliminated by the surgical precision of a skilled technician but that in many cases need to be fumigated (Tented).

Subterranean termites can be found in the whole United States and come in a number of different species. Western Subterranean termites are elusive. They live underground, about 40 feet, in colonies with populations with numbers like the population of  Irvine to the population of Los Angeles.

They travel in shelter tubes, that they create from moisture and feces, between cracks in concrete and pipes.

Subterranean termites are known to be able to eat a foot of 2X4 in as little as 6 months.

WHAT CAN WE DO FOR YOU

The core of all that we do is the inspection. First we need to determine the amount and types of infestation as well as the construction type.

Once all of the circumstances have been established we can help you decide which treatment would best suit your needs.

Non-Fumigation

FORMOSAN TERMITE

Also call the "Super Termite" because of its colony size which can contain several million termites. A mature Formosan colony can consume as much as 13 ounces of wood a day (about 400 g) and can severely damage a structure in as little as three months.

Don't waste any time if you believe that you have termites. An inspection from a professional is only a call away.
